  Hermes Bus Riding Policies   Minimize

A bus pass obtained in the principal's office must be required before a student will be allowed to ride a bus other than the one to which he/she is assigned. A note from the parent will be required before this pass will be issued to the student from the principal's office. The note must state the following:

  • What bus the student will ride
  • The child's destination
  • Who (if riding to another student's home) the child is riding with.

If you do not know the bus number, be sure to write the address down in the note and we will find out the bus number. Remember, there are parts of town that do not have bus transportation services, so be sure and include a working phone number on all bus notes.

  Welcome to Hermes Elementary   Minimize
hermes.gif Welcome to the Hermes Elementary website Hermes Elementary will enchance excellence in each individual to become intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally productive for life long learning in a challenging world. The Hermes Elementary teachers worked together to come up with a united vision for our school: "We will lead the way in educating ALL children as our own." This statement reflects a cohesive effort to teach all children as we would want our own children treated and educated at school.

  • Parents and/or other authorized persons picking students up early (before 3:15 p.m.) must obtain an "Early Dismissal Slip" from the elementary office before entering the classroom.
  • See the elementary office to obtain a visitor's pass prior to visiting the teacher or classroom during the school day.

  Visitors on Campus   Minimize

One of our main jobs as educators is to protect your children at school. It is very important that parents and all visitors on campus follow our new Safety Rules.

The biggest change is that ALL parents and visitors on campus are required to provide a photo ID and obtain a Visitor's Pass at the Hermes Elementary Office when coming onto the campus during the school day.  Parents wanting to eat lunch or visit their children in the cafeteria must first go the school office, provide a photo ID, and obtain a Visitor's Pass. All parents must check out the student with the classroom teacher or teacher on duty before picking up the child and leaving.

Adults picking up children after school are asked to wait in the Jackson or Milam Streets' driveways either in or near your car.  Students will be walked by a teacher or teacher aide to your car for their safety.  We are trying to keep the sidewalks clear so that children can easily move to the areas they need to go. When parents line the sidewalks it makes it difficult to direct small children and since their safety is our number one concern, we hope that you can follow the new procedures and rules accordingly.

Picking up Students at School   Minimize

Please remain in your vehicles or on the  sidewalks of Hermes Elementary pick-up areas when waiting to pick your child up after school.  If you walk on campus prior to dismissal time you must go by the elementary office, show photo identification, and obtain a Visitor's Pass.

Parents who do get Visitor Passes and wait outside the 100-wing should not remove Kindergarten children from the PE/Music lines when these students are returning to their classrooms at the end of the day.  This creates a chaotic situation for the teachers (who have no idea what happened to their student), and the other young children who can easily become confused or frightened when they see adults grabbing or removing other children.

Please remember, any assistance you can give us to improve school safety and discipline is greatly appreciated.  The most important help you can give us is your support and compliance with rules in place to protect your child!
