La Grange High School has participated in the GAPP program for over 15 years.  Partner students from Germany live in the homes of their partners at LG High School in the spring, attend school and participate in other excursions in the area for three weeks, then the La Grange partners go to Germany to do the same thing.  Our partner school is the Kaiserin Augusta Schule in Cologne, Germany.
Cologne is a large city located on the Rhein river in Nordrhein Westfalen.  La Grange High School has had a long time affiliation with the Kaiserin Augusta Schule and their English teachers, Michael Kage and Thomas Senger.
Watch for pictures and information about the activities planned for the program.  The Cologne students were here in April, 2009 and the La Grange students were in Germany in June, 2009.  The La Grange students visited Cologne, Aachen, Bonn, Bruhl, Trier, Passau, Munich, Oberammergau, and Mainz as well as many other cultural and historical sites in the area.  The next exchange is planned for the spring semester and summer of 2011.

Delta Epsilon Phi is a national German Honor Society and La Grange High School received its charter in November, 2000.  Students must have a 3.0 overall grade point average, a 3.6 grade point average in German, and they must have completed at least 3 semesters of German in order to be eligible for membership in this organization.  The purpose of the organization is to recognize high school scholastic achievement in the study of German and to promote interest in the study of German language, literature, and civilization.  The national organization is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German.  Students work closely with the German Club in many events, but they also complete several service projects during the school year.  These service projects include serving refreshments and attending a local Texas German Society meeting, reading German childrens' books at the K-8 library on campus, hosting welcome and farewell parties to our German visitors, singing German Christmas carols at the local nursing home, helping with the student exchange, helping with Texas German Society conventions and other community event, as well as hosting a teacher appreciation event during Texas Public School Week.  The Delta Epsilon Phi induction ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. in the La Grange High School cafeteria.
