DECA is a national organization for high school students interested in marketing, management, and business careers. To find more information go to http://www.deca.org/ or http://www.texasdeca.org/.
The local La Grange High School DECA Chapter was established in 1967. Annual dues are $25.00 and cover your local chapter, state, and national dues. Your one time dues fees enables you to participate in all of the chapter's many calendar of events for 2007-2008. Our fund raisers include the sales of DECA Daily planners and our Turkey and Dressing Dinner on November 9, 2007. Participation by all chapter members provides them with the opportunity to participate in numerous conferences and field trips throughout the year. Stay tuned for the upcoming events calendar.
If a La Grange High School student is enrolled in any of our Career & Technology classes, you may still become a memer of DECA by paying your dues of $25. and participating in all of the DECA chapter's activities.This new policy was adopted this year at our Marketing Educators Professional Improvement Conference and passed by the DECA National Board. With the increased core classes and graduation requirements, DECA acknowledges the need to override the previous policy of having to be enrolled in one of the Marketing classes just to be a member of the organization. We still, highly recommend that you enroll in any of our Marketing classes for the knowledge of the curriculum which prepares you for a successful year of competition.
DECA is in need of a great, motivated, and dedicated officer team for 2007-2008. Positions are open for President, Vice-President of Sales, Vice-President of Finance, Treasurer, Secretary, Reporter, Parliamentarian, Chaplain, School Store Manager, and Asst. School Store Manager. Sign-up early for these great leadership positions and build that resume for scholarships and community/school service.

| DECA District V Career Development Conference - Monday, January 28, 2008 Fourteen hopeful DECA members & marketing students have been preparing deligently for the upcoming DECA District V Career Development Conference, February 1-2, 2008 at Smithville H.S. Students competing include: Claire Cutright, Leila Chavez, Brittany Janda, Tara Gillespie, Bodie Gillespie, Matthew Donaldson, Krystal Van Dresar, Ashlee Buse, Monica McCafferty,Chadler Zamarron, Bailey Keith, Paige Joost, Kristin Smith, & Carolyn Hudec. Best of Luck to each of these students. Students winning the District meet will advance to the State-level of competition to be held in Corpus Christi, February 28-March 2, 2008. |
| DECA District V Career Development Conference, Tuesday, October 2, 2007 Cedar Park, Texas YMCA - Monday, October 01, 2007 A slate of officers & committee leaders will be heading to the DECA District V Leadership Development Conference in Cedar Park, Texas, YMCA. The student leaders will participate in a ropes training course, District V T-shirt design contest, & officer training procedures. Students attending this conference are: Angela Hinkley, Marlene Ramirez, Ashlee Buse, Maria Minzenmeyer, Allyssa Boyd, Carolyn Hudec, Brittany Janda, Paige Joost, Tara Menconi, & Amanda Hearitige and supervised by Mrs. Rebecca A. Cernoch, Chapter Advisor. Look for further reports when we return. |
| 2007-2008 DECA Chapter Officers Election - Wednesday, September 19, 2007Students running for an office must post their campaign posters & resumes up in the hallways by Monday, September 24, 2007. We will vote for officers by secret ballot voting by Friday, September 28, 2007.
T-shirt committee members need to have 3 selections for chapter members to vote on with each price listed by Monday, September 24. Return all permission slips to attend the Sports Marketing Conference & Fashion Merchandising Tour by Wednesday, September 26. |

| The Leopard Paw, Your On-Campus School Store - Tuesday, September 18, 2007All DECA members & current Marketing students are reminded to sign-up to work in the school store. Hours of operation are before school, and Lunches A & B. All DECA members must work 1 full week per semester to be allowed to travel with the chapter. Working the store provides invaluable hands-on retailing experience as well as an opportunity to meet new classmates & teachers who frequent the store daily. |

The meeting discussed chapter t-shirt designs, upcoming officers election, and the Sports Marketing & Fashion Merchandising Conference to Houston on October 11, 2007 with a visit to the Houston Rockets. Members are reminded to sell their 5 daily planners & turn in their sales proceeds by Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Students attending the conference must have signed permission slips. Pick them up in Room 303. |
| DECA DAILY PLANNERS HAVE ARRIVED - Wednesday, August 15, 2007Get organized for the 2007-2008 school year by purchasing your DECA Daily Planner for $5 which includes the sales tax. This year's planners feature a new cover design. Come by Room 303 or call the marketing department at 968-4835. This is one of DECA's major fundraisers, helping offset student leadership conference expenses. The daily academic planners will also be available for sale at your on-campus school store, The Leopard Paw.
Planners will be on sale through September 30, 2007 so please place your order early & don't miss out on the exciting upcoming events of our 2007-2008 school year! |
